I Think Therefore I Am

This is actually a quote from the philosopher René Descartes and it is so apt today in our modern world.

There’s is a comparable statement from more modern day which states “be careful what you wish for, because you’ll get it”.

Both mean pretty much the same and they both apply to your health also. Life becomes a self fulfilling prophecy as we succumb to the stresses and pressures of daily life. If our consistent thought is of feeling tired, rundown and stressed then this becomes our new norm.

Your body is a programmable system, it is affected by what we think and your body reacts. So if we expect, predict and view tomorrow as being hard and difficult your body will protect itself accordingly.

Stress hormones are released, organs change their function, muscles tighten, joints slow in motion and we generally feel “crap”.

Many people say that they feel “crap” because they are sore, or unwell. But in fact the thoughts precede actions. So you physically feel unwell after your thoughts/emotions have down the same. The first signs of you thinking your way to poor health are not physical symptoms. The first symptoms are in fact those emotional states …

The grumpiness, tired feeling, short tempered, anxious or depressed.

Then the physical symptoms occurs … small ones initially that we put down to the weather, age, or some other external issue. Then they become bigger and bigger until your health issues add to your feelings.

So what we think, we become. It becomes a vicious cycle where our stress, our prediction of tomorrow being stressful feeds into our poor health, which is turn makes tomorrow not look as good as today.

So you have your thoughts, the external events of life and now your poor health all reinforcing the premise, that things are not great and they aren’t going to be great tomorrow either.

Sounds a bit doom and gloom doesn’t it. But there are simple things you can do to change this.

Does positive thought remove all your health issues?

It would be great to think so. But once you have poor function you still need to reprogram those areas to function better. You need to learn ways of reducing stress, whether it is going for a walk, meditating, socialising or whatever you enjoy (enjoyment negates stress).

But thinking positively does help, expecting tomorrow to be better than today helps …

There’s a simple mantra you can say, think or contemplate that says …

“Day by day in every way, I’m getting better, better and better”.

It all helps, but so does seeing someone about your health concerns. Treatment and learning techniques to use at home gives you a physical set of tools to help imporve your health, reduce stress, allow you to sleep better, have more energy and so much more.

It is simple to return to good health, all you need to do is take that first step, which is …
