Acupressure is a technique that has been used for many centuries. Acupuncture is well know, but acupressure is less heard about, but is just as, if not more effective.

We use acupressure in our clinic to help reinforce the other techniques. It works well in conjunction with the Spinal Kinesiology and Homeopathy.

To help you understand more about this technique, please read on.

What is Acupressure

acupressure points for health

Pressure points (another name for acupressure) is the process of holding or pressing on certain points in the body. The application of pressure helps to remove blockages or tension relating to various ailments.

The concept of the technique is that there are meridians or energy channels running through the body. If these channels become blocked, tension builds and disease develops. Each channel can cause a variety of ailments.

By using the pressure points you can unblock the channel, reduce the tension and restore the body to health.

Little is know how the technique works, but there has been countless research and studies performed on the technique to prove its effectiveness.

Classed as one of the more popular alternative medicine techniques, it is gaining popularity as there is no need to use needles to pierce the skin.

The Benefits of Acupressure

The main benefit of acupressure over acupuncture is that you can use it at home. The home application is based on the second natural law (the Law of Habit) whereby to change any health issue you need to form new positive habits.

Any health issue (including back pain) that has been present for a period of time becomes a habit. Relying on treatment alone to remove the problem has low success. Why?

Unless you retrain the body to stay healthy, it will return to old patterns and habits. Treatment alone will not reinforce the new habits, it is the techniques you apply at home that will.

This is why it is common for patients who rely solely on treatment to feel better, will find in a few weeks or months time, the pain returns for no reason. Or another issue will arise.

Long-term change requires the formation of new habits. This doesn’t mean a lifestyle change, but training your body to become healthy. No different to running for fitness.

If you saw a trainer who taught you how to run, but you never went for a run between visits, fitness will struggle to improve – the same applies to your health.

A small amount of time and effort daily will give you huge rewards. There is a quote I’ve always loved:

“It is the small things you do on a regular basis that make the biggest changes for life.”

Unless you can change the habit the problem will return. By applying pressure points at home, you are performing a self-treatment, building new internal habits.

Small amounts of time (just a minute or two), on a regular basis (daily initially, then less with time), make the biggest changes (no more pain, better health and well being).

Jin Shin Jyutsu

Jin Shin Jyutsu chart

In our clinic we use a technique called Jin Shin Jyutsu. This is a Japanese based acupressure that “holds” acupressure points rather than pressing on them.

I use this technique mainly due to its simplicity. With others forms of acupressure you must press firmly on the pressure points to relieve tension. If pain is not present you don’t use the points.

With Jin Shin Jyutsu, the process is different.

Because you hold, not press on the points, you can feel the energy pulsation within the meridian. This means you can feel the points working and know when they are balanced.

A point should pulse within a few seconds; this means there is no blockage. So holding points you can notice how quickly they take to pulse and how strong the pulse is.

Even when pain or your health concern eases, you can still note that the points may not be 100%. This allows you to see when the problem has been eliminated and not merely the symptoms.

Most people will stop using techniques as pain eases. You believe that because pain or any symptom has gone, that the problem has gone too.

With Jin Shin Jyustsu you can detect when balance has returned, as the pressure points pulse well. This commonly occurs well after the pain or health issue has eased.

Help Is In Your Hands

By combining techniques and by teaching patients how to improve their health at home, success with treatment is improved.

In the clinic we believe in the philosophy that the more you know, the more you can do at home, the less treatment you need to stay well.

Jin Shin Jyutsu only requires a couple of minutes of time, while watching TV, to help return your body to balance.

Along with treatment, your pain eases, health improves, energy levels increase and stress reduce.

Health requires the balance of the chemical, physical and the emotional areas of the body to be in balance. To help this occur, you need to be able to stimulate and improve your health at home.

With the application of acupressure points you have all the help you need in your own hands.

Feel free to call the clinic on (027) 384-0160 to arrange a time for consultation, so you can see how we can help you. We combine Spinal Kinesiology, Homeopathy and Acupressure so you have the ability to be healthy once more.
